MADISON GETS COMMUNION

For the hundreds of new bands traversing the United States in 15 passenger vans each day, the issue is a common one.  How do you get people to come check out a relatively unknown band on an off night?

Enter Communion.

Formed in London in 2006 by musicians Ben Lovett (Mumford & Sons), Kevin Jones (Bear’s Den), and producer Ian Grimble (Manic Street Preachers, Travis, Beautiful South), Communion nights were heralded across the British press for its enviable reputation of introducing: some of the globe’s most exciting young acts.

Calling Communion successful is an understatement, as documented from the many artists to emerge from these nights, including Michael Kiwanuka, Daughter, Gotye and Ben Howard.

And now, Communion is coming to North America, including a monthly stop in Madison.

Communion Madison will take over The Frequency the third Wednesday of each month and be partnered locally with promoter Majestic Live.  Tickets for all Communion nights will be $9.50 adv and $15 Day of Show.

The guiding force for Communion nights is summed up by Lovett.

“In a time where friendships are formed online, musicians are less overnight sensations than afternoon flash-in-pans and society is living at a pace where fast food seems slow, we are keen to rebuild a sense of Community in the world. Support, respect, brotherhood, growth and development are some of the values that make up the Communion organization. This exists on and off stage. We champion musicians who encourage one another, regardless of genre, or level of commercial success. This support in turn led to many of our artists inadvertently becoming successful. We hope to continue and build on this reputation.”
