With special guests Sleeper Agent and The Dig.

Kweller does write earnest, heart-baring lyrics, and he’s more than willing to share his insecurities in song. But emo? Ben Kweller has been called everything from balladeer to punk rocker, anti-folker to indie-popper. His ability to weave together opposites that coexist happily on the same album is something few can do. Kweller has been on the road as a solo artist since 2001 and made a name for himself touring with the likes of Guster, Jeff Tweedy and Death Cab for Cutie. In 2003 he joined forces with Ben Folds and Ben Lee to tour and record a four song EP as “The Bens.”

The key to Sleeper Agent’s steady ascent, recently punctuated by their rollicking shows at SXSW, is disarmingly simple: the band members know how to laugh at themselves, and their songs are joyously melodic. (Possible motto, according to Smith: “Live faster, don’t die” —admittedly a work in progress.) You can hear this in particular on tracks such as the blogger-touted “Get It Daddy,” a dizzying school’s-out anthem about growing up, “Love Blood,” a jerky WTF about commitment, and “Get Burned,” the giddiest love-sucks tale you’ve ever heard that sounds like the Strokes doing the nasty with the Arcade Fire.

The Dig are a rock band from NYC. Their music, written by the bands’ three main songwriters, draws on influences from early rock and roll and rural folk and blues to new wave and modern rock bands. The Dig’s two singers Emile Mosseri and David Baldwin have been making music in various bands together since they were 11 years old. They met up with keyboardist/guitarist Erick Eiser while still in high school, and after writing music together throughout college they eventually moved to New York CIty and formed The Dig.
